Dies mag sicherlich ein bedeutsames Thema unserer Zeit sein, in dieser Hausarbeit soll es jedoch um die Rolle, die motivationale Prozesse in der Personalentwicklung selbst spielen, gehen. Die Personalentwicklung wird vor allem im Kontext der Herausforderungen, die rasche Wandlungsprozesse (z.B. in technologischer Hinsicht) sowie die zunehmende Globalisierung mit sich bringen, immer wichtiger: der rasche und ständige Wandel macht ein lebenslanges Lernen, das weit über das schulische Lernen hinausgeht, erforderlich. Dieses Lernen findet im Erwachsenenalter und damit auch in Personalentwicklungsprozessen statt und besteht nicht aus der Verlängerung des schulischen Lernens sondern im aktuell Halten der arbeitsmarktspezifischen Kompetenzen und Schlüsselqualifikationen. Dem Individuum dient es dazu, seine Position auf dem Arbeitsmarkt zu optimieren, aus Unternehmenssicht zielt es auf die langfristige Verbesserung oder den Erhalt der unternehmerischen Wettbewerbsfähigkeit. Eine erfolgreiche Personalentwicklung sollte sich unbedingt an diesen Parametern orientieren und, da sich Personalentwicklungsmaßnahmen an erwachsene Personen richten, auch die Merkmale erwachsenengerechten Lernens mit einbeziehen.
