Die „Produktivkraft Wissenschaft“, vertreten durch den, die verschiedenen ökonomischen Varianten der Zukunft vorausberechnenden Informatiker Dr. Berg, den Chemiker und Plasteforscher Professor Uhlenhorst und den Ingenieur Baum, Fachmann der Kältetechnik, wehrt sich in einer Arbeitsgruppe gegen Kolbasser, Direktor eines Braunkohlekombinates, dem die Tagesaufgaben wichtiger sind und dessen Braunkohlebagger vor der Stadt nicht Halt machen. Aber auch die kühn in die Zukunft blickenden Wissenschaftler vertreten nur die Belange ihres Forschungsgebietes. Zu Recht erinnert der Wirtschaftssekretär der SED-Kreisleitung daran, dass es bei allen Plänen nur um die Menschen geht.
Ein interessantes Lehrbeispiel der Wirtschaftspolitik in den letzten Jahren der Ulbricht-Ära.

Simm: Mit dir? Da bin ich vorsichtig. Und außerdem: Ab heute kostet mich jedes Wort mit dir eine Tonne Abraum. Von wegen Amerika und Japan. Wir sind hier nicht im Ruhrgebiet, sondern im Brücktal. Berg setzt sich unter den Greifer.
Simm: Geh aus dem Weg, sonst schütte ich dich auf die Kippe.
Berg: Würdest du auch deine Wohnung abreißen? Was sagt deine Frau dazu?
Simm: Wenn sie mir im Wege ist, warum nicht?
Berg: Deine Frau?
Simm: Meine Wohnung, du Esel. Verzeihung.
Berg: Die Stadt bleibt stehen.
Simm: Bist du lebensmüde? Jetzt hol den Werkschutz, Peter.
Klappenschläger: Nicht nötig. Mach ich selber. Ich hau ihn zusammen.
Simm hält ihn zurück: Verschwinde aus der Bahn, Genosse Doktor. Aus der Bahn! Hörst du nicht?
