So wird Elisabeth bewusst, dass sie nur ein Mensch vor jenem grausameren Schicksal retten kann: Liam Lindkvist, der schwedische Kommandant, zu dem sie sich mittlerweile mehr, als nur hilfesuchend hingezogen fühlt. Liam erwidert ihre Gefühle zu ihm, aber er muss in jenen Tagen wegen einer wichtigen Angelegenheit nach Schweden zurück.
Zwischenzeitig werden sieben schwedische Soldaten - die aus Wismaria desertieren wollen - von einem jungen Mann - der eine hohe Belohnung wittert - im Kommandantenhaus verraten.
Die Tragödie bekommt ein neues Gesicht, doch über ihr schwebt weiterhin das Geheimnis der Nebelkrähen und das Mysterium um einen alten, schwarz gekleideten Mann.
