Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2008 im Fachbereich Ethnologie / Volkskunde, Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg (Institut für Völkerkunde), Veranstaltung: Hauptseminar Status und Prestige, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Am Beispiel Polynesiens lässt sich sehr anschaulich zeigen, welche Rolle Feste für den Erhalt
oder den Erwerb von Status und Prestige spielen. Dies soll in der vorliegenden Arbeit
versucht werden. Nach einer sehr kurzen, allgemeinen Darstellung Polynesiens, möchte ich
einen Aspekt seiner Kultur etwas genauer beleuchten, den gesellschaftlichen Aufbau und die
Vorstellungen von Status und Prestige. Im Anschluss daran folgt eine ausführliche Einführung
in die ethnologische Betrachtung von Festen im Allgemeinen, in der die Verbindung
von Festen zu Status und Prestige eher theoretisch-abstrakt gezogen wird. In der daran anschließenden
Darstellung von Festen in Polynesien wird diese Verbindung dann konkret
veranschaulicht. Als polynesische Beispielgesellschaften habe ich Tikopia und die Marquesas
ausgewählt, auf die ich mich immer wieder bei einzelnen detailierten Betrachtungen
beziehen werde. Eine ausführlichere Vorstellung von Tikopia und den Marquesas erfolgt
am Ende der Arbeit.
