Nunally Jones war hübsch, und sie verstand es, diesen Umstand durch kosmetische Kunstkniffe deutlich hervortreten zu lassen. Nunally hatte große, grünlich irisierende Augen und einen vollen Mund, der durch die stark aufgetragene Schminke allerdings ein wenig vulgär wirkte. Aber auch das mußte im Bella Union wahrscheinlich so sein. Die Männer jedenfalls, die jetzt schon im Takt zu klatschen begannen, schien es nicht im geringsten zu stören. Jim Kane beobachtete dies alles aus dem Hintergrund, und er behielt ganz besonders den weißblonden Neil Killoe im Auge, der reglos am Ende der Bar stand, sein Glas in der Hand hielt und keinen Blick von Nunally Jones ließ.
