In der vorliegenden Arbeit untersuche ich, welche Rolle die Sprache in Gustave Flauberts Conte Un Cœur simple spielt und wie der Autor hier die Gattung der traditionellen Legende verarbeitet.

Die Gattung werde ich unter 2 vorstellen. Einen Ausgangspunkt dafür liefern nicht nur die Definitionen von Jolles und Jauß, sondern auch das Glossar von Arnold und Sinemus.

Beim Sprachaspekt, der unter 3 folgt, interessiert mich besonders, wie und wann der Erzähler seine Hauptfigur Félicité sprechen lässt, was das Gesprochene über sie aussagt (3.1), wie sie selbst Sprache aufnimmt und welche Rolle Loulou dabei spielt (3.2).

Félicités Lebensweise gleicht offenbar in vielen Punkten einer Heiligenvita. Kann Un Cœur simple auf Grund des Charakters und beschriebenen Lebensweges der Félicité als Legende in Flauberts Werk bezeichnet werden? Mit diesem Thema beschäftige ich mich unter 4, wo ich die vermeintliche Heiligkeit der Félicité darstelle (4.1) und den Einsatz der Gattung der traditionellen Legende im Conte untersuche (4.2).
