Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2006 im Fachbereich Politik - Politische Theorie und Ideengeschichte, Note: 2,0, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (Geschwister-Scholl-Institut für Politische Wissenschaft), Veranstaltung: Hauptseminar Machiavelli, 11 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: „Die Emanzipation des Tyrannen - dies und nichts anderes ist Machiavellis historische Leistung.“ Mit diesem Vorwurf beginnt Dolf Sternberger das Kapitel über Niccolo Machiavelli in seinem Buch „Drei Wurzeln der Politik“, in dem er sich mit der grundlegenden Untersuchung des Politikbegriffs beschäftigt. Eben jenes Kapitel trägt die Überschrift „Dämonologik“ und geht - wie das Zitat bereits vermuten lässt - nicht gerade positiv mit Machiavellis politischer Theorie ins Gericht. Besonders Machiavellis Schrift über den Fürsten („Il principe“) ist es, an der Sternberger sich stört. Die Ratschläge, die Machiavelli darin einem zukünftigen Fürsten eines geeinten Italiens erteilt, bilden die Grundlage für Sternbergers Behauptung. Dieser sieht in Machiavellis Fürst nichts anderes als den Despoten, den Aristoteles in der „Politik“ in dem Kapitel über die Tyrannenherrschaft beschreibt. Sternberger stützt sich bei der Entwicklung seiner Dritten Wurzel der Politik unter anderem auch auf Reginald Pole, der Machiavellis Fürsten für mit dem Finger des Satans geschrieben hält.
Allerdings soll nicht die Untersuchung Sternbergers „Dämonologik“ Gegenstand dieser Arbeit sein, sondern die eingangs erwähnte These. Ist Machiavellis „principe nuovo“ wirklich nur der alte Tyrann bei Aristoteles? Hierzu sollen insbesondere die relevanten Stellen in Machiavellis „Il Principe“ mit denen von Aristoteles „Politik“ verglichen werden, aber auch andere Analysen der Tyrannis herangezogen werden. Dazu wird zunächst Sternbergers These erläutert. Danach die Tyrannis in allgemeiner und spezieller Hinsicht unter besonderer Berücksichtigung der entsprechenden Kapitel in Aristoteles „Politik“ dargestellt und schließlich mit Machiavellis „principe nuovo“ in Vergleich gesetzt. Abschließend soll Sternbergers These kurz bewertet werden.
