Dieses Zitat sagt bereits viel über die von jugendlichen Lesern rezipierte Literatur, deren Inhalte und Wirkung/Bedeutung sowohl im privaten, als auch im schulischen Kontext aus. Jugendliteratur thematisiert die Probleme des Erwachsenwerdens und setzt sie in einen für den jungen Leser zeitbezogenen und lebensnahen Kontext. Folglich vermag sie den adoleszenten Rezipienten bei seiner Identitätssuche zu unterstützen, indem sie ihm auf fiktiver Ebene ein Medium zur Selbstreflexion, sowie zur Auseinandersetzung mit seiner Umgebung anbietet .
Im Rahmen der zu verfassenden Arbeit stellt sich hierbei die Frage, inwiefern der Adoleszenzroman als eine spezifische „Subgattung“ der Kinder- und Jugendliteratur dieser Deskription gerecht wird und welche Chancen und Risiken sich dabei vor allem für die Deutschdidaktik der Sekundarstufe ergeben.
