Seidenfaden verwendet. Hier wird unterschieden zwischen der frühen Kindheit, der Geschlechtererziehung und der moralischen Erziehung, wobei ausgewählte, meist auch von der begrenzten Literatur abhängige, Aspekte der traditionellen Erziehung vorgestellt werden.
Anhand einer historischen Perspektive lässt sich gut erläutern, wie die aktuelleren Erziehungsmerkmale und Aspekte der Kindheit entstanden sind und warum sie sich nicht einfach mit „unserer Erziehungswelt“ vergleichen lassen.
Abschließend wird noch ein zeitlicher Bogen von den Traditionen zu der gegenwärtigen Situation mittels aktueller Beispiele und Ereignisse gezogen.
Zahlreiche Veröffentlichungen erwecken den Eindruck, dass der Begriff „Indianische Erziehung“ zu stark bestimmte, negative Assoziationen hervorruft und mittlerweile einem Label entspricht, weswegen er in dieser Arbeit durch die Formulierung „uramerikanische Erziehung“, wie auch von U. Fahrenholz vorgeschlagen, ersetzt wird.
