Dazu werden Eigenschaften, Eigenheiten und Stereotypen der jeweiligen Geschlechter aufgezeigt und oftmals karikiert.

Das Motto scheint zu funktionieren. Die Shows und die Bücher sind ein wahrer Erfolg. Jeder Person scheinen die Unterschiede zwischen den Geschlechtern, auch ohne die TV – Shows und Bücher, allgegenwärtig, sie werden aber oft unhinterfragt hingenommen. Doch woher stammen diese geschlechtsspezifischen Unterschiede eigentlich? Wieso verhalten sich Männer und Frauen so oft so unterschiedlich? Sind die Unterschiede angeboren, also in unseren Genen festgeschrieben, oder werden sie anerzogen, lernen wir sie und werden wir somit damit von der Gesellschaft geprägt?

Die Sozialisation, und die geschlechtsspezifische Sozialisation im Speziellen, zeigt, dass die Unterschiede, die die Geschlechter im Laufe ihrer Leben aufzeigen, nicht von Natur aus bestehen, sondern durch einen langen Prozess angeeignet werden. Hier soll nun versucht werden, die geschlechtsspezifische Sozialisation und deren Wirkungsweise zu verdeutlichen und zu zeigen, dass gerade durch diese die geschlechtsspezifischen Unterschiede hervorgebracht werden und mit ihrer Hilfe diese Differenzen erklärt werden können.
